Tengion was founded in 2003 to develop and commercialize a medical breakthrough that creates new organs and tissues by harnessing the regenerative power of a patient's own healthy cells. This advance in autologous tissue engineering seeks to augment, repair or replace impaired tissues and organs (such as bladders) without the need for transplants from another person. Our approach eliminates the adverse effects of donor transplants (there is no rejection, and there is no need for drugs to suppress immunity), and it has the potential to eliminate shortages of certain organs and tissues.
