Daniel Goldsmith to serve low-income children and senior citizens who do not receive proper dental or vision care."Only 24 percent of our students have regular dental care," Bayless Lead School Nurse Susan Van Patten said. "We have about 42 percent of children eligible for Medicaid but a lot of dentists choose not participate in that program because one, they don't get very much reimbursement depending on the care they give and two, it takes a long time for monies to turn back around causing many (dentists) to opt out."This is where ReachOut Healthcare America steps in. Services come at no cost to a school and even uninsured children can receive either donated or discounted care through the program. The program is free for children on Medicaid. For uninsured children, the program offers services through self-pay, that is a student pays out of pocket."A cleaning at a regular dentist visit might cost $100," Hancock Place Superintendent Ed Stewart said.
