BIOGRAPHY:
President and Chief Executive Officer
Professional Leadership
A seasoned distribution and service-based business executive, Kevin Bruce brings over 30 years of experience in leading organizations, launching improvement initiatives, and spearheading enterprise value growth.
Kevin joined United Site Services (USS) in July 2007 as President and CEO. Under Kevin’s leadership USS experienced unprecedented industry growth through excellence in service delivery, aggressive acquisitions of proven local providers, and revenue diversification. The company experienced record profits in 2007 and 2008, despite the economic conditions. During the continuing residential housing downturn Kevin restructured the organization by consolidating operations into three geographic regions to reduce costs and further expanded the company’s service offerings and markets.
Previously, Kevin served as Chief Executive Officer for Strategic Equipment and Supply Corporation (Strategic), one of the foodservice industry’s largest providers of equipment, service and supplies. Under Kevin’s direction the privately held company achieved record levels of revenue, profit and customer satisfaction. He directed the company’s growth strategy including establishing a portfolio approach for channels and service offerings. Late in 2005, after Strategic’s fourth year in a row of record growth moving it to #2 in the industry, Kevin oversaw the successful sale of the company.
Prior to joining Strategic, Kevin was a senior company officer with responsibility for the North American Business Unit of LSG Lufthansa/Sky Chefs, the world’s largest inflight airline caterer with annual revenues exceeding $3.2 billion and serving over 300 million meals per year at 170 locations globally. Beginning in 1998 as Group Vice President for Core Markets, Kevin was responsible for the largest and most profitable business segment of the company. He implemented a comprehensive planning process coordinating overall business strategies, annual operating plans, budgets and human resource needs. Kevin’s group delivered record profits and customer quality while significantly improving management recruitment and retention. He was also a key architect of a productivity initiative utilizing lean manufacturing principles, uniquely applied to airline food production and supporting processes.
Beginning in 1996, Kevin served as a corporate officer for Pulte Corporation, the largest residential homebuilder in North America. Within the corporation he held concurrent positions as President of Manufacturing, Distribution and Operations and as President of Builders Supply and Lumber, a wholly owned subsidiary. Kevin’s leadership helped to optimize the new home building material and labor supply channels, more fully leverage Pulte’s industry leading volumes, implement new business partnerships, and capture synergies in the home builder and non-traditional home building channels. His efforts ultimately created a competitive advantage and led to sustainable increased shareholder value.
As President of Builders Supply and Lumber, Kevin was responsible for the $350 million wholly-owned subsidiary of Pulte Corporation, specializing in the sales of lumber, building materials and value-added manufactured structural components. Builders
Supply and Lumber was the largest supplier of its kind exclusively targeting the high production homebuilder with custom designed products and services. After careful review, Kevin recommended and implemented the divestiture of this business unit to strategic buyers; it became Dallas-based Builders FirstSource.
Kevin spent 10 years with PepsiCo where he served a number of executive roles during his tenure. As Vice President, General Manager of PepsiCo’s Food Systems Worldwide Equipment, Kevin was responsible for all worldwide restaurant equipment and related building materials sales, operations, distribution and support service activities. This business unit, the largest of its kind in North America, supported over 1500 new restaurant openings in 1996 with sales in 61 countries and operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Poland, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.
Kevin restructured the PepsiCo Food Systems Equipment team, including the MasterTech Repair & Maintenance business and the Promo Depot (logoed merchandise), to provide more focused sales coverage and a more efficient, cost-effective and customer responsive network. He developed a strategy that helped the company more than triple its 1993 sales, exceeding $1.0 billion and achieving a 3% global market share by 2000.
He served as Vice President, Distribution Services for Taco Bell and as Senior Director of Sales and Marketing. In these executive positions, Kevin shaped the role PepsiCo played in restaurant product rollouts, new restaurant development, electronic order entry and franchisee/licensee marketing to keep pace with Taco Bell’s strategic value menu strategy and aggressive expansion. Kevin worked closely successfully managing franchisee and licensee relationships. He reported to both the President of PepsiCo Food Systems and the President & CEO of Taco Bell, while managing a revenue accountability of over $2 billion.
Before joining PepsiCo’s executive team, Kevin spent nine years with American Hospital Supply/Baxter Healthcare International. He began his career in distribution and was quickly promoted to overall operations responsibility managing 8 distribution centers in the West. He ended his tenure in the position of General Manager for the Los Angeles Region, the largest and most profitable in the corporation.
Achievements with USC
Kevin’s four years as a varsity player at USC were one of the football team’s most successful seasons in its storied history, with his class posting the best win-loss record at the University in over a century. As just a 17 year-old freshman, Kevin played on the varsity 1972-1973 USC team that went undefeated, won the National Championship and was voted one of the best teams in modern college history. In Kevin’s junior year, USC captured another National Championship, which was set up by a dramatic comeback victory over Notre Dame at L.A. Coliseum during the last game of the regular season. During the defeat of Notre Dame, Kevin helped USC out of a 24-0 deficit by recovering two fumbles and a tipped pass that were all converted to touchdowns in the second half. USC came out on top, 55-24, and Kevin finished the game with eighteen tackles, two fumbles and a tipped pass.
Over the course of his college career, Kevin played in three Rose Bowls, all against Ohio State. During his senior year, Co-captain Kevin and the #1 ranked USC squad defeated Joe Montana on his home field at Notre Dame. Kevin’s final game with USC was the Liberty Bowl versus Texas A&M, which ended as a 20-0 shutout of the Aggies.
Kevin’s college honors include being named an All-American (HM), All- Pacific Coast (1st), All Pac-8 (1st) and Academic All-American. He was also selected the top graduating senior at USC in 1976 and awarded the Trojan Diamond Award. Kevin declined an offer to play professionally with the Oakland Raiders in 1976, opting to accept an NCAA scholarship, which allowed him to pursue his MBA degree.
While at USC, Kevin met his future bride Patty with whom he has been married for over 30 years. Patty has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, multiple teaching credentials, 20 years of teaching experience, and a certification in graphic design. She is a special education teacher and an accomplished artist working in various media, including oils on canvas, ceramics, bookbinding and metals. They currently reside in
