6 Trends to Consider for Your Business

It can be hard to know which of the many trends in technology or marketing are going to stick around, and which you should use to grow your business. Here’s my pick.

1. Social Media

No longer a trend, social media is really a requirement for any business, in my mind. But I could be wrong. Assess who your target audience is and find out if they are on sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. If they are, you should be. No excuses.

Best Thing About It: It’s free if you do it yourself.

2. Groupon

I’m still on the fence about Groupon, but if used correctly, it can be a boon to your business. Make sure you can afford to execute your deal, and have a plan for getting customers back in the store. I’d actually probably suggest starting with the Groupon knockoffs, as they may give you a better cut of your deal.

Best Thing About It: You’ll get a ton of traffic online and off when you post your deal.

3. Foursquare

If you’re a brick-and-mortar, using geolocation tools like Foursquare can bring you more business. Offer special deals to incentivize people to come in: and don’t just offer them to the mayor!

Best Thing About It: You can offer deep discounts during off-peak times to really drive traffic in.

4. Mobile Website

So many people are accessing websites from their smart phones, and if yours isn’t optimized, it can be an eyesore to view on a tiny screen. Spend the money to make it look sharp across all mobile platforms.

Best Thing About It:  People will want to access your site on the go.

5. Mobile Apps

Not every brand needs a mobile app, so consider that before diving in. But if an app will help you brand and drive new customers, hook up with a solid designer to get started.

Best Thing About It: You can even DIY your app if your budget’s tight.

6. Blog

Again, not a trend anymore, says me, but I realize that a lot of you still don’t have blogs. Get one. The search engines love them, and they provide great resources for people. Just like this one does for you.

Best Thing About It: You don’t even have to do the writing! Hire me to do it!
