So, too, forward thinking has ruled the day at Commercial Bank, from its beginnings more than 87 years ago. The bank was just 13 years old when the depression hit. Banks all over the country were closing, as panic-stricken customers withdrew money as fast as they could get their hands on it. The scene was no different in Thomasville. But Commercial Bank's managers had other ideas. In a bold stroke of inspiration, they set cotton baskets full of dollar bills in their Broad Street window under a sign that read, "If You Want Your Money, Come Get It." That step alone sent the signal that money was available and secure and gave Commercial Bank the distinction of being the only bank in Thomasville that didn't close.
