| Generali USA Life Reassurance Company's ("Generali USA") reinsurance traditions began with Business Men's Assurance Company of America (BMA) formed in 1909 to provide accident insurance to traveling business men. The founder personally sold the 500 policies necessary to obtain a charter. 1920 brought the addition of life insurance to the company's product offerings, a bold step for a health insurer at the time. Reinsurance services became available in 1928, and were pursued aggressively beginning in 1941.
Today, Generali USA Life Reassurance Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. (Generali), a leading international insurer based in Trieste, Italy. Generali was established in 1831, and the "Generali Group" has now grown to a conglomerate of 175 insurance and financial services companies worldwide.
