| Hunter Manufacturing makes Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) air filters and air filtration systems for vehicles and shelters. The company also makes tent, shelter, and vehicle heating equipment under the Hunter and Camfire brands.Founded in 1937 by Robert Hunter, the company earned its leadership in military heaters during World War II supplying tent and truck heaters for U.S. troops. Since then, Hunter has been the leading provider of new and innovative products for heating of personnel and cargo for both military and commercial applications. For example, Hunter makes every heater in the army's M-151 jeep and the Army's HMMWV ("Hummer"). In addition, thousands of military shelters and tents are warmed by Hunter's multi-fuel shelter heaters. Hunter's latest heater design utilizes thermoelectric technology to provide a heater that requires no external electricity, yet it circulates 35,000 BTU per hour of clean heated air for tents and shelters.
In the mid 1980's, Hunter embarked on a mission to meet the U.S. military's chemical-biological defense needs with an expanding line of air filters and air filtration systems. Today, Hunter is the leading manufacturer of CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) air filtration systems for the U.S. Military. Hunter's HEPA and ASZM-TEDA impregnated activated carbon-based filters are used in a wide range of applications, including individual and collective protection systems for temporary shelters, permanent structures, military vehicles, and ship-board collective protective systems for Navy ships. Hunter also supplies collapsible protective entrances (air locks) for shelters.
