| The Iowa Savings Bank started in 1902 in Coon Rapids, Iowa as a private bank; one without government license or regulation. The bank was given a charter in 1915 and then was subject to some regulation. The founders listed at the time of state chartering were: Warren and Edward Garst, Mrs. Charles (Laura) Garst, S.D. Henry, F.C. Jones and George Cretsinger. Warren Garst, who later become Governor of Iowa, owned the controlling interest in the Iowa Savings Bank.
