| In April 1997, J. R. Murphy and John M. Grantland left the firm of Sweeny, Wingate, Murphy & Barrow to form the law firm of Murphy & Grantland, P.A. The two attorneys, along with paralegal Marybeth Powers, began the firm in a spare office at a business owned by Mr. Murphy's brother-in-law with a borrowed home computer, a single phone and one desk. From that humble beginning, the firm moved to offices on Forest Drive. J. R.'s wife's aunt, Sue Gunter, came to answer the phones on moving day and has stayed as firm bookkeeper. Within a year the firm had more than doubled its client base and workload.
