| In 1881 the first St. Christopher's Home (for girls) was founded in New York City. In 1885 boys were admitted to the home and in 1890 St. Christopher's moved to its 12 acre campus in Dobbs Ferry, on the Hudson River. In 1915 children needing more specialized care began to be placed in foster homes outside of the campus. A name change came in 1929 to "St. Christopher's School."
St. Christopher's merged with The Jennie Clarkson Home in Valhalla resulting in the names being combined in 1975. Children's Health Service, a long time provider of preventative health care to New-York City's low-income families was brought into the fold in 1981. In 1998, our name was shortened to St. Christopher's, Inc.
