In 1954, Richard L. Towsley began selling calendars and other specialty items to friends, acquaintances and businesses in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
The demand for such promotional products grew and provided a business opportunity for William Niedermeyer, a grandson of Richard Towsley, upon his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, School of Business in 1977. He subsequently purchased the business and continued its expansion to present day.
Towsley’s joined Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI) and Promotional Products Association International (PPA), the recognized industry associations, in 1982. The company has been a leader in specialty advertising in northeast Wisconsin since the early 1980’s.
Rapid expansion of Towsley’s followed, requiring expansions at the current site, adding sales agents, employees and developing new services. Fulfillment and Co-Op Programs grew in size and scope never imagined. Jack Rood was hired in 1992, allowing the owners to focus more time on meeting the needs of a growing client base. In the years that followed, Towsley’s added graphics arts, web development, and technology departments.
With the retirement of Jack Rood in 2003, John Hemken joined Towsley’s as President/CSO to advance the business to the next level. To better serve customers the organization was realigned to support the frontline sales teams. In addition, several breakthrough technology advancements were put in place to better support customers. Most notable were the computer system upgrades and the addition of in-house embroidery operations.
Towsley’s is poised for growth and prosperity in the coming years. The team and infrastructure is in place to help customers with their promotional needs and brand building initiatives.
